What year car did you have? How high did you rev it? How long before the failure?

I've got a 2002 Z06 with stock rod bolts and I've currently got my rev limiter at 7100 but am consiering bumping it up to 7500...

Thats pretty high for stock rod bolts, how will it hold together? depaends on your luck. Either way I don't think you can can much higher then 7200 with the stock pcm from what I've heard.

I wouldnt recommend it, ive herd of several ls1 rodbolts letting go at 6900-7300, you do have the ls6 so its your call. just my .o2

in 01 they revised the rod bolts

you should be fine at that RPM

Yes, in late 2000 they revised the rod bolts and used the same in the then upcoming ls6 motors. Ive heard plenty of stories about them surviving numerous spins above 7000, but I cant really say Id feel comfortable turning 7500! Theyve got to give out sometime.

LS2 TB
TSP MS4 camshaft (239/242 .651"/.609" 111 LSA)
Vortex ram air
TPIS 1 3/4" headers
Magnaflow x pipe
Borla Stinger exhaust

The reason that I ask is because I see lots of people saying that you should change out your rod bolts but I'm not sure I see any post 2000-2001 cars with issues with stock rod bolts.

Spinning a stock bottom end to 7500 is like playing russian roulette its only a matter of when.

Holy hell 7,500RPM. I spun a rod bearing it was probably caused by the 98 oiling issue, the poor rods bolts or a mixture of both. I'd leave it at 7,200 even though you have a LS6.

I think id upgrade to the ARPs. But more importantly I predict a lifter failure before then if they are still stock.

Where are you guys getting this info?? everybody says you should be able to do this and you cant do this.... and on and on. I havent heard one person say that they lost a motor due to overreving. Im sure people have but I would like to hear from them. that being said, I rev 7000rpm and Iam upgrading my 98 with arp2000's.

Its a hit or miss thing. I spin my X4 to 7000 on stock bottom end (LS6 Block), but its still playing with fire. 7500 on stock rod bolts = Ka' Boom

Spend a little more time on the board. You see some pretty sick carnage from time to time, and many from rod bolts. Whats more, rod bolt failures dont always put a hole in the side of the block, many times the bolts will merely stretch and allow the bearing to spin. This probably happens more often, IMO.

there was a kid that was shifting his 2002 LS1 at 7500. it saw 7800 a couple of times. when he chucked a rod the rod bolts were still intact. meaning they were fine.
