Default Best cam with stock heads

Can someone tell me what the best cam is to get with stock heads and street friendly with a cheap price. Also about how much of a gain you will get from it.

"Best" is a relative term... it depends on what you are looking for

I am looking for something with a smooth idle but not as mooth as the stock idle. Is there a cam out there were you dont have to change your stock springs, retainers and pushrods. Can you just tune it?

You will have to change your springs pretty much no matter which cam you get, even an LS6 needs a spring change. It just depends on how much of spring you need.

I see you have LT's so I would suggest something along the lines of 224/224 at .580 ish lift on a 114 for smooth idling. and some comp 918 springs. You might also think about an LS6 intake since you have a 2000. check out ls1sounds.com for samples of almost every cam/header/exhaust you could imagine.

And please search around there is a literal **** ton of info on this, all I can say is read read read, before you buy.

Good Luck

Josh

Yep, and look in the INTERNAL ENGINE section. Anything with a 224-228 duration will be fine. The type of springs you need will depend on the lift of the cam rather than the duration. That said ANY cam other than the stock cam will require you change springs.

i couldnt agree more, a friend of mine has this cam in his '00 Z28 with pacesetter long tubes and when the cutout is open holy crap its a nasty little bitch. other wise very smooth has nice throaty exhaust lobe to it. you should take the TSP cam, springs, pushrod package for i think $599. well worth it.
