Question TSP 233/239 Cam?

im looking into doing a cam swap to hold me over untill i can afford to build my 383 short block. I was thinking about getting the Texas speed cam swap package with the 233/239, .595"/.603", 112 LSA cam. anybody runnig this cam? Is it a fairly streetable cam? How is the idle?

I ran this cam for about 5000 miles then decided to build another motor. Cam did fine for me and idle wasnt bad but then again different strokes for different fokes. If your doing cam only this cam is the way to go for sure.

I chose this cam for a 408 I built for a truck and it works great. Everyone says I could've gone a lot bigger in a 408, but this truck is a DD and it weighs about 4300-4400 lbs. It idles great @800 rpms and gets that big pig moving. Great power to about 6500-6600.

That's the exact same cam I am planning on buying for this winter's project. I'm curious how it idles, etc. I like a rowdy idle and streetable to me means it won't stall out and gives torque similar to the stock cam down low. I already have problems hooking up on the street with Nittos and my engine is pretty much stock, so similar torque values should keep my car happy on the street.

i have a similiar cam in my vette, a 232/238 600 lift. The car has real nice idle. You can definitely tell there is a cam in the car. it surges a little but once past 1300 rpm is fine. The car will stall if its not warmed up but once its at operating temp. it acts almost as good as when it was stock. As far as power its down below 2k, from 2000 to 2500 its about the same. from 2500 to 4500rpm i picked up about 40trq to the wheels. and after 4500rpm the power just explodes and the car pulls like crazy to redline. Keep in mind though i also have ported stock heads and all the boltons.

i have the same cam as 06cobaltss. through an a3 I went from 280h/270t to 347h/315t. it definately idles choppy and sound good through my td's and it made a noticable difference after 3000 rpms

I have this cam on a 113 lsa. We have the idle set at 900 for oil pressure reasons, the guy that tuned it reccomended it because it will hold stronger pressure, and oil press. wont surge. It still sounds rowdy as hell. I drive it 700 miles a week. The cam pulls like a **** over 4k. Down low it drives stronger than stock, mid range is even better, but as stated about 4000+, it is strait badass all the way lol

did you upgrade your oil pump when you put the cam in?

yes. TSP Ported LS6. With the idle around 800 it just sounded nasty, well it was very lopey at 800, and kind of made the oil pressure flucuate at just over 40 psi. The guy that tuned reccomended i keep it at 900 because it was better for the engine. Now it holds a steady 45psi or so.

My mods...

LS2 Timing chain, TSP ported oil pump, LS6 intake, SLP pulley, Mac-mid length headers, ORY, 3" cutout, and a SLP lid.

This cam sounds NASTY when the cut-out is open. THen i have factory SLP Dual/DUal exhuast. You can still hear the cam through the exhuast, but it sounds very good. Very good tone, and quiet. It will suprise a LOT of peole from a roll on the hwy because it sounds like i only have exhaust. PLus my car looks 100% stock. that helps a little lol

I've got this cam and I love it. I upgraded to a TSP ported ls6 oil pump as well to a LS2 timing chain. I bought the cam pkg2 setup w/ the PRC springs, too. This cam as mentioned above does pull hard at 4000+, it has a nice choppy idle, esp. if you have full exhaust! Good luck on your purchase and install.

Are you doing the cam install yourself?

Reason why I ask is that by the time you buy everthing you need (cam, pushrods, valvesprings....install kit....etc) and pay for install.........maybe just save that money and continue to save for your motor build.

Just a thought.

i do everything myself. Nothing is too bad (atleast i dont think) I swapped the cam out one afternoon during the week on my daily driver lol. I had to have it to drive to school/work the next day. Took less than 5 hours. The only thing that ever worries me is dropping a lifter. No way could i pay anyone to work on my car.

I think if you follow the LS1howto. directions almost anyone could do it...

yeah i planned on doing it all myself. i just helped my buddy do basically the same thing... cam, timig chain, intake , springs, and pushrods on his 99 t/a. it really wasnt as hard as i thought it would be. it took about 12 hrs over 2 days to do everything. he got the tsp package as well, just with the torquer2. once i heard his car idle i had to have one myself, only better haha. and i can reuse the oil pump and pulley for the stroker when the time comes.

lol. that how it happens. Everyone i know with an LS1 has a cam in their car where i live. If they dont have a cam in it yet, they have one on the way. lol.
