Default oil pressure...

my car and mods are on my sig, ive been a little worried about what the gauge reads..
i get the normal cold start readidng
50-55psi
operating temp.
40psi

but what really gets me is that when i sit at a light/stop the needle will start to drop from 40psi to 30psi and it will fluctuate in between...it doesnt happen all the time but its begining to be very common. As soon as i give it gas it will go back up to 40psi.

i also took it for a 150 mile drive 2days ago..i wass getting 50-55psi on the high way , but onthe way back the highest it got was 45psi.

any one had this problem??? any input would be nice

im thinking i need an ls6 oil pump..how much will it cost me to have a shop install one???

Have the same issue, i think its the oil pressure sending unit is taking a **** and ******* up. get the sending unit fixed before you get a new oil pump.

Its behind the intake on the drivers side, you have to remove the intake to get to it and its a small black cylinder looking thing stick straight up on the back of the block. And yes you can get it from autozone or just get it from gmpartsdirect.com they have them also, dont go to the dealership they will rape you and charge to much for such a little part.

that sending unit is the devil!I had a similar problem with my car. So while i was doing an intake swap i replaced it. That fixed the problem and now i sleep a lot better at night! Its not hard to pull the intake off it just takes a little while. Good luck!

My oil pressure went up 10 psi after I got a cheap replacement from Auto Zone, but I also have an AutoMetre gauge so I didn't worry about it.

you can change it without taking the intake off but its a bitch! and by the time you get done making up new words wishing your hand fit back there, you could have already had the intake off.

i think they are saying that you have good pressure but the sender is messing with the reading. I have a ported SLP high volume pump on my car and I get almost 60ps1 cold, and around 45 hot idle with 50-55 normal driving and I can easily peg the **** out of that gauge at wot. how this helps. I use 10w-40 oil too.

I'm the guy that said I gained 10psi with an Auto Zone sender. My Autometre gauge used to mimick what my factory gauge showed, but after the new sending unit the el cheapo AutoZone gauge shows 10psi higher oil pressure. My point was the new sending unit (from AZ) has a difference in accuracy. Take my results for what you want, but I know I trust my auto metre gauge more than the factory oil pressure gauge/autozone sending unit combo.

You need the socket and a 3" extension. Yoy have to do a little feeling around, but it can be done. I have a Snap-On socket part# A120.
