Default Budget LS1

Any recommendations for the best bang for the buck LS1. I'm on a tight budget but I still want to go fast. Thanks for any advise.

You could go speed pro forged pistons and Eagle I beam rods, stock crankshaft, and a set of oe vavled patriot cnc 243 heads milled 59cc. Could find a used cam on the forums too.

i'd put a 150-200 shot on that motor and you'll be movin, But you'll need a 12 bolt or a 9 inch. Its never ending lol

and or cam swap. cam swaps would run you just shy of $2000 with all parts

What sort of budget???

Are we talking a couple hundred or like $5k?

Swapping internal engine parts will IMO be expensive and only give potential for HP rather than actual HP (rods, pistons, head bolts, etc.) Plus if you have to pay someone for the work it gets even more expensive.

How fast are REALISTICALLY wanting? I mean a 10 second car which is easy to drive and reliable as a DD isn't going to be cheap.

Nitrous is the obvious answer, although the $$$ rack up if you go for install and all the safety items. Plus it's not a full time solution and if running a massive shot on a SI engine will take it's toll in time.

If you just want a bit faster then the usual bolt ons are the best bet and maybe combine with a cam. 400rwhp can still be had an a 100 shot on top will work pretty well. This should be fairly reliable, durabe and not OTT price wise.

Of course if you spend the $$$ you can build a far stouter setup with much greater HP potential.

Heads, Cam, and Intake. Figure to spend about $2300-$2500 for everything.

$2000 for a cam swap?

Used ported heads-$500
Used cam, pushrods-$300-350
Ls6 Intake-$300-350
Head gaskets, bolts and other misc-$350
good dyno tune $450
Free mods and home ported MAF and TB=Free

Might as well say $2000 give or take for cam, heads, and intake...you will still need a good set of used headers and exhaust work....

LS2 chain $40, TSP pump $130, cam AT LEAST $300, hardend pushrods $110, Valve springs $200-500, anti freeze $20, tune $300-500, rod bolts $130

then for everything you are going to need headers $375, a stall $200-600, shift kit $130, trans cooler $50 and a rear girdle $130

yes, just shy of $2000

with heads it will be over $2000

is it a possibilty to build a LQ4 on more of a budget and get more hp than the LS1.

I've got a stock LQ4, what would you recommend doing to it?

I've got everything but the intake, rails, and harness. Was going to get a victor jr. efi...

(Not intending to hijack, but if you think I am go ahead and ask a mod to delete it I don't mind.)

3.73's are affordable and should wake it up a good bit....and even if you put a stall on a bone stock ls1, it will still make a hell of a difference from what i hear
