the CRANK spocket has 9 slots. if the center slot was at 12 o'clock which way would be to retard? this is if your looking at it as if it was on the crank.

I think the slots to the left are to retard the cam but not for sure.

Im tring to retard my cam 6 degrees so I need to move over 3 slots.

I saved this just for times like these...

http://www.romac.com.au/pdf/Std%20&%...ank%20Info.pdf

And if that doesn't hit home, the simple answer is:

Rotating it counterclockwise is retarding it.
Rotating it clockwise is advancing it.

The crank rotates clockwise if you're looking at it from the front of the car when the engine is running.

Just be careful, if the LS series uses the offset style crank gear that you do not line it up with the mark denoting the keyway slot instead of the alignment mark.

There should be two dots on the rollmaster crank gear, you will want to use the right-most dot for reference, as shown in the 2nd box.
