New cam= poor start?
I just got my 98 T/A back from MTI yesterday, and have a really poor cold start. I had a C2 cam, springs, pushrods, LS2 timing chain, LS6 oil pump, and underdrive crank with overdrive alt pulley installed with a dyno tune. My previous mods are flowpac, slp airmass, NW 90/90, 160 thermo, slp longtubes with no cats, corsa catback and an slp 2800 stall. My problem is when I start it cold it hunts from 1100 to 1400 and keeps dying unless I rev it up. I knew it would idle higher with the cam, but I had no idea it would start like my thirty year old carb equipped chevy pickup. Is this normal with a C2 cam (Dur I224 E224 Lift I.581 E.581 LS 112), or do I have a problem? Once I rev it for a minute or two it will settle at 1100rpm idle and go into gear and run fine until I shut it off and it cools for a while, but if I dont rev it for that long it dies as soon as I put it in gear. If this is normal, is there anything I can do to improve it? Any help is appreciated.
Oh, in case anyone wondered what it put down (392.3RWHP/396.3RWTQ)

Good info, but I already dropped 500.00 dollars for a dyno tune, and I think ill let them redo it until its right. My main complaint is that I have to drive back across houston to get it fixed. I am just glad that this isnt normal, because its a PITA to start as is.

Does it actually die if you dont rev it? Before Allan had tuned my car, it would start up, go to around 1400, then drop down right to where it almost died, and it would balance out after doing that about 2 times. If I revved and tried to help it, the car would keep doing that continuously for a few minutes.

I have the same cam about 3 years now installed a LS1 Speed. When i first got it,it did the near same thing,I called them after like 2 days and they said too give it some time to do some learning,if it is not to your liking bring it back in. Well after7-10 days it never died out after the inital start, and it runs great now. They told me when its cold out to start the car and let it run for at least one minute before putting it in gear,or else it might die on you.

Same issue here but doesn't bother me. I lightly press on the gas on a cold start and hold it at 1400 rpms for a couple seconds and then take slowly take my foot off the pedal. Tuned by speed inc. - they said thats normal

oh yeah, don't put the car in gear, until it's warmed up. Takes a lot of stress off your valvespings. I wait until i have my 190 degree running temperature, better safe than sorry.

Have the same issue. Mine all started when i did the m6 to a4 swap. It cant be normal. I would not accept that at all. Im looking into a leaking fuel injector. It makes sense that you would have to give it throttle to clear it up for a few secs. If thats not the case its going back to Finish Line Performance. With that small of a cam you should be able to start put in drive and go.
