Who is running a stock timing chain with a cam?
I was just wondering. Mine is stock and I'm running a Comp 228/230 with 918 springs. I bought a set of Patriot Golds that I want to install. I don't trust the single spring since the recent problem I had with the broken springs.

I have 24k on my LS1 and will be doing a TFS H/C swap soon. Not changing the chain. In fact, ran the stock chain on my LT1 car which was H/C (306 cam!) and never ever had a problem. With the juice that motor made 517 rwhp at 6200 but I spun it out to 6600 10 times a day (college oh how I miss the fun!)
I think if you have under 30k miles you shouldn't need a new chain. in fact, I've never heard of anyone breaking one first hand in the modern LS1/LT1 era. Not somebodies friend, or cousin or some guy they knew..but actually somebody that broke one. I'm sure there is somebody out there though.

i've got a hotcam and i'm still on the stock chain... the LS2 chain hadn't came out yet when i put my cam in several years ago, but there wasn't much slack in the stock chain at all.
with that said... i've already bought an adjustable timing chain set for my new cam that will be coming soon. to me now that i know how to do it degreeing in a cam its worth it.

I have 90k miles on my H/C 00 Z28 a4 still with stock timing chain and oil pump. Been cammed since 50k miles (about a year and half ago) had the g5x2 in for about 20k miles and a 236/236 .602/.602 for 30k no problems here… everyone tells me im crazy… especially since I have the car setup to shift at 7000 rpm on stock bottom end. Just pulled the cam out to go bigger and the timing chain still has barely any slop in it and the oil pressure was always good to me a lil over 40 psi at a 800 rpm idle.
BTW if you want cheap insurance get the chain/pump.

I ran the stock chain in my previous car but it had less than 20k on it at the time of the 225 cam only install. It was fine for the amount of time I had it. Now with that said I went with an LS2 chain when I did the heads/cam on my current car back late this summer. The LS2 is a noticably beefier unit.

Stock LS1 chain here. Car has had a cam since 4K miles and currently at 32K. I honestly don't lose any sleep over it. If I'm ever in there again I'll add an LS2 chain for the helluva it.
