Default How much time to install heads???

What is an average time needed to install fully assembled heads on the LS1? Shops are quoting me 10-12 hours, sounds a little high from what I have been told.

I took all my stuff apart and cleaned by my self and it took about 5-6 hours to take everything apart and clean. (about 1.5 hours just cleaning). Then i had help with cam and head reinstall and that took about 4-5 hours. Then i put everything else back on by my self and that took another 4 hours and had it running afterwards. So about 95% work by my self took arround 15 hours. Not bad for my first time.

I was told somewhere between 4-6 hrs from people who have done quite a few head installs, does this check out to be correct? I may venture into doing it myself and with some help.....Not sure if I want to take on more than I can handle.

took my heads/cam install about 12-15hrs between myself & a friend worth of actual labor, but then we were taking our time & did it through the top rather then dropping the kmember/motor & all.

Ok, well maybe 10 hrs of labor is correct? Are these other people quoting me 4-6 hrs just out of their minds? I guess Ill find out when this takes place....just debating on whether or not to take it to a shop or try and knock it out myself

Especially when the socket slips off a headbolt head and you bang your knuckle on the valve cover rail.

acctually alldata shows 12.7 hours for a 2000 camaro with an LS1. That is what a tech would generally get paid for that job. It doesnt really say how long it will take, but its usually a good estimate.

depending on how many other problems i ran into while doing it, the cleaning takes the most time of all i think, and one of the most important steps.

I found that the amount of beer drank throughout the weekend of a head swap is relevant to how long it takes the more beer you drink, the less you work....longer it takes

it's a relatively easy swap, and can be done with most simple hand tools,

I would plan 10+ hours. Hell most people on here said it took them 4-7 hours for only headers, Thats not even 1/2 way there!
