Default Heads/Cam on a 100K+ car??

Just wondering what the thoughts were of putting heads and cam on a 100K+ car for the first time. I'm uncertain on whether I should pursue this or just stop dreaming 'till I can afford a new engine. I'd appreciate your input on this.

Thanks,
Justin

If it doesn't use oil / smoke ,then the engines strong .

Offtopic . I used to buy $100 dollar Pontiac 400ci engines from the junkyard ,they might have had 200k but I runem like they were new . I swapped cams ,intakes , putem in behind stalled autos , even sprayed a few of them with good results.

I have 140K on my LS1 and I'm doing a cam and possibly heads this winter. Not even going to hesitate to do it. All I would recommend if you don't plan on pulling the engine out to do the swap is get a cam that peaks under 6200 RPM due to the stock rod bolts not being very strong.

A compression check wouldn't hurt either. As long as that turns out well and it doesn't use/burn oil like the other guys said.....have at it!

100,000 miles on a car (that is maintained) today still has better tollerances than a new car 25 years ago

Look at the bright side. If it blows up you have some nice heads, a cam and a new valvetrain to put in a new engine. You would have to buy that stuff anyway, right?

Assuming you don't go with a huge stroker of course.

I have H+C on my 110K mile motor. No power loss due to aging what so ever. The heads were off about 12K ago and there was absolutely no cylinder ridge at all, and my oil pressure is still superb (45+ hot idle). These motors will last forever if taken care of properly.

I'm planning on getting a cam for mine I want the TSP 233-239. Can't afford heads otherwise I would be doing that too!!! About to his 104k. Besides you would be doing a top-end rebuild, so like everyones already said as long as it doesn't burn oil your good!! I would do it. Just be aware tho that some bolts might be a little resiliant to come out. Especially the head bolts.
