Default Good idea for valvetrain upgrade?

I've decided not to get the 1.8rr's because I will be doing a cam next year.

However I have decided to still upgrade my valvetrain. I have some blue ls6 springs with locks, retainers, etc new in a box.

So basically all I need are pushrods.

Which ones? Are the TSP ones good or any of them as long as they are chro-moly?

The stock rr's are good enough to handle the ls6 springs?

Do I need to upgrade lifters? I just want my valvetrain to be as reliable as possible right now.

Why bother? Do you have any issues now?
The LS6 springs are good for stock cam and 01 LS6 cam or cams with less than .050 lifts. That is about it.
You have to take the heads off to access the lifters.
The stock Rockers can handle any direct drop in springs.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Just wait until you do the cam. Then, do better springs, pushrods and lifters that meet the requirements of the cam.

Eh. From what I'm reading the stocker pushrods are crap anyway. Pushrods are cheap insurance. I just want to know which ones you guys recommend.

I should have specified about the lifters lol. I wanted to know that if I did upgrade to a stronger factory style pushrod if they would have issues with the lifters.

Cheap insurance against bent pushrods from mechanical over-revving? The alternative is bent valves. Hardened pushrods are only necessary to handle the increased spring load and acceleration from more radical cams. If you are set on doing something before you get the cam try to find some 1.8s for sale cheap, etc.

IMO the ls6 springs arent really an upgrade. They certainly wont handle anything but the mildest aftermarket cams. Sell em and save up for a set of dual springs to swap in when you do the cam. And the stock rockers are very stout. The harland sharp keeper mods are a nice upgrade to them. Theyll eliminate the small chance they have of spilling the needle bearings out the sides.

Don't do hardened/chrome push rods for the reason stated above. If you do miss a gear and over-rev w/ stock (or ls6) springs you'll bend valves instead of the push rods.

I'm not gonna use the LS6 springs with whichever cam I get. I will probably get the 918s for that.

I'm talking about for the DD that likes to go WOT every now and then.

Just upgrading the stock valvetrain to be better then stock on a bolt-on car.

If anything buy all the parts, and then do it when you have all the pieces of the puzzle together.
