Default New WS6! But stalled out a few times

I just picked up a WS6 vert with a TR224 cam and a 3500 stall. I noticed one time while backing out, it died and one time when parking it died. It seems to get a really low idle and just stopped. No problems whatsoever cranking it up or driving. Just curious ... what could this be from?

my guess is that cam, large stall convertor, and no tune. when I installed my 3800 stall I started geting cam surge at real low rpms and it never did that before. I asked the manufacture' of the stall conv. if he's run into this and he says since its so light compared to stock, and doesnt transfer power the same, it needs to be programmed for that. nothing else was changed in my setup, just the stall conv..

John,
How much hp / and what kind of 1/4 mile times (w/mph) were you seeing? Did you notice a lot of performance improvement?

hey, no tune for me yet. that wil be early spring. it'll be a dyno tune. Id expect to see another 15plus RWHP, but more importantly it will be a better car to drive, and get better gas mileage. another great benefit of getting adyno tune is that you KNOW exactly where the power max's out at, so no need to overrev the eng. thinking your making power still. I bet your max power is around 6000rpm with that cam. for best track results generally you want to shift around 300 rpm past peak HP. but if you got the cash, it will be well worth it. trust me.

not sure but my car stalls every once in a while when backing up...i have a 3600 stall and cutout and no tune but since you have a cam i would definatly say its because you dont have a tune.. if you got some extra money get it tuned and see how it is even if it doesnt fix that your still gunna gain some extra ponies!

I put down 350 rwhp and a couple of times it did 355.did not have the chance to run it on the track yet,but a member here(99lss1) has the same exact mods as me(just diff. heders) puts down 342rwhp,but he runs looow 12'sNA.Iforget what he does with the 100 shot.Dont get too caught up with dyno numbers with an a4 or you will be dissappointed(unless its really low).on my first tune it only did 315 had al kinds of stalling ,starting ,idle issues, then found a better tuner and got the 350rwhp and fixed all the issues in the tune.then a wk later i noticed it did stall once in reverse .My tuner came by made adjustments and now its like it came from the factory.runs perfect.I sometimes race friends on the streets (6 speeds) who dyno more than me,but I can still beat em.like i said earlier a4 wont get you the same dyno # that a stick shift will, but it doesnt make it slower
hope this helps you out

Twisted TA are you saying I could mess up my motor if romping on it untuned? It is a tr224 cam and 3500 stall.

I dont think you'd be in any trouble with that cam/stall untuned, tons of guys have done it for sure. but your def. leaving some power/driveability on the table driving it around untuned.

i dont believe its goign to hurt to not have it tuned but its an oppertunity to have the car run smoother and gain power at the same time..you dont have many opportunities to do that!

So then it looks like the person you bought it from used HPTuners to tweak it...right?

Do you know anyone with HPTuners? If so, you could have them log some data for you and see whats going on with it.

If your not tuned, I would go easy on it. You've increased the efficiency of the engine so the PCM would need to be straightened out.

Dont neglect the PCM. You'd be amazed as to how much power is hidden in that little box.

You can alos ask this question in the "PCM/Tuning" forum.

That is going to depend upon the shop and the amount of time it takes to tune. Some places charge by the hour while others want a set amount.

Another option is to find someone with HPTuners and a WB02 in your area (local Fbody club) and see if they can help you out.
