Default symptoms of bent pushrods????

ok as some of you know my car hasnt been running right lately. I got it on a scanner today to see what it was doing and here is what I found.

after a WOT run I get a misfire code on #8

I have put in 2 different sets of plugs and tried gapping both sets at different amounts so its not the plugs, I have swapped the plugs wires a few times and it still misses on 8, finally I tried changing the coils around and it is still missing on #8 above 5k.

I can hear a ticking noise that I have thought was an exhaust leak while the car is idling but from what people have said a bent pushrod could cause this noise.

does anyone have any ideas?

tick tick tick = the best way to tell.

Open your engine and take a peak.
They are easy to change.

So could a bent pushrod cause my car to do this, and have these problems? or should I look for something else?

I'm not sure if my car has a bent pushrod or bad lifter because I've heard both. My dealer tried to tell me it was normal but turns out they just started it for a sec when it was cold and it's hard to hear when it's at that high an rpm anyway so now that I've had GM talk to them telling them it's not normal, hopefully they will fix it this time. What mine sounds like is a loud ticking that doesn't go away at idle and lately at WOT it takes a second to finally shift like it just sits there. The other day it sounded like it hit the rev limiter but it was only at 4,500 rpms. If it's a lifter, I guess it could be collapsing and causing this.

I'm just going by what a tech at SLP said when he heard my sound clip of it. He said it sounded like valvetrain noise like a collapsed lifter. I've also heard of a few other people on LS1.com who had some ticking so the dealer replaced their lifters and now there is no ticking so that's what I'm hoping my dealer will do now that GMs on them about it.

well the ticking isnt there all the time though.

We checked the pushrods, springs and compression today and all were good.

Im thinking the only things left is the injector for that cylinder or the computer. Im going to swap injectors tomorow and see if the miss follows the injector, if it doesnt I am clueless <img src="images/icons/confused.gif" border="0">

ok, here goes...first thing you have to figure out is 'what causes misfire?' a lot of things; crank trigger picking up stray signals, cam position trigger doing same, bad coil/wire/plug, carbon buildup, etc. if you've moved a set of known good coil/plug/wire over from a good cylinder, then it is possible that a collapsed lifter is not allowing proper mixture to propagate into cylinder and fire properly. the tickin you have sounds like the problem.

so a collapsed lifter wont tick all the time? I would think it would make a lot of noise all the time and would be down on power throughout the powerband as well, and not just above 5k.
