To bad they don't fit the Gen III motor! You will have to retro fit a Gen I motor into there.

there is another company that makes SOHC conversions for the LS1. I actually called the guy up and talked to him for about half an hour. Real nice guy but once he said 3500$ and that he'd never made a 600whp LS1 I knew I was all set with that idea.

still a pretty cool idea though. I think he made like 500+ whp NA and still maintained a 650rpm idle, thats pretty sick

Ages back there was a good thread in the ADV forum about advantages of 32 valve heads. Don't remeber any actuall coverage for Ls1's though.

Would be pretty funky to see a DOHC 32v LS1 though, espcially if you had it spinning to 7500rpm+.

im not saying theres advantages or im looking to buy it, we were just bored after work yesterday talking about lt5 and how awesome ls1 is because its so stupidly simple and such well execution of 1970's technology and other retarted things, i mentioned this to my freind who really wanted to see it (kid made his own solid lifter kit for sr20) and i couldnt find it. just wanted to see it, to check it out, no intentions of buying or anything.

dohc heads ruin the whole awesomeness of 350cid in a tiny lightwieght package you can shove in anything.

hell my 240sx with ls1 is easy as hell to work on, and theres so much room in the engine bay. all thanks to pushrods. overhead cams would totally ruin that, and it already makes stupid amounts of power as is.

Well the LS1 isn't 1970's technology, infact internal combustion engines have been around for a lot longer than 30 years. And OHC isn't any newer, in fact it may even pre-date OHV.

But it's never that simple, I mean you can get Over Head intake side exhaust, so uses both push rods and OHC geometry.

And DOHC doesn't really alter the size at all. A Jaguar AJV8 is DOHC and weighs about the same as a LS1, is narrower and a little taller.

Adding DOHC heads to the LS1 wouldn't double the size of the engine, it would still remain compact and still be able to support upto 427ci+ just like the OHV variant.

But the addition of 32 valves would allow at least 20%+ more HP. You could run a significantly wilder setup than a T-Rex on the top end, but still retain similar low end torque and idle as a TR244. This would also allow the engine to pass stricter emissions/smog standards also.

Not sure what happened, but a while back there was word of a 6.4 litre DOHC LSx engine in development. Even though its giving away 0.6 litres displacement to the LS7 it still has the potential to produce significantly more HP, either FI or n/a. And only at a small cost in terms of size and weight.

And when such an engine finds itself most often in the engine bay of large vehicles like Pony/Muscle cars, trucks, SUV's or even the Corvette (pretty big compared to other sports cars). Then having a slightly bigger/heavier engine is next to negligable compared to the gained performance.

BTW - a LS1 is 346ci not 350ci
