Question swapping 853 to 241 got some ????

Ok to make sure i got everything right!!!!! When i swap the 853 with the 241 what all will i need

99+ style valve covers
99+ coil pack brackets

853's don't suck they're right behind 241s by a SMALL margin.

Did you mean to say 806 heads? That's what would have been on your 1998 from the factory if they weren't changed.

I believe you will also need the little plastic piece that fits on the end of the tubing for the PCV on the driver side valve cover.

sorry, but really not worth the swap if u currently have the 853 castings.

3-6 rwhp is absolutley not the gain u want, keep them or atleast get a 243 casting.

I swaped out my 241 for a set of 853 ported heads and everything bolted up perfect. The only thing i had to change was the head gaskets. I had to buy the composit gaskets because of the "notch" in the heads. Other than that your 853 heads should be center bolt for the valve covers. I think you are mistaken as to the casting # the 806 has the perimiter bolts. Then yes you would need new valve covers and coil brackets.

Like was said above probably most 10hp. You should get those ported or do it your self, mill them and you will see better gains of 20hp or more with a cam to complement it.

you still can find stock 243s used starting from 380$-500$ and they give u atleast 15-30rwhp untouched.

as for gains from 806 to 241 you will see no more than 10-12rwhp

Get them milled .030" and you'll see some better gains. Everything will bolt-up fine, only you'll have more compression.

ARP head studs? They would not be necessary, but probably wouldn't hurt. Stock GM head bolts probably wouldn't be a bad choice either @ $25/set.

What size cam are you running?
