Default buying used heads??

Is there anything to look out for when buying used cylinder heads? Is this a good idea or a bad idea?

If you're paranoid you could take them to a shop and have them check for warping/cracks. You could also put new valve seals and springs on just in case. Depends on how much trust you have in the seller, if they've recently come off a working engine or have been sitting around for a few years, also depends on the mileage on the heads. I have no problem with buying used heads, especially if you're on a budget.

I bought a used set of heads on PT.net a few months ago. Had them checked out and only thing wrong was one valve had some wear(no biggie, 12$), and there were small cracks between two of the valve seats(pressure check: 35$), checked out ok. No problems. Then a valve job was like 120$.. Overall in the end, add like another 200$ to the cost and you'll be safe, assuming no damage.

Just make sure you have a valve job done.
