Default cam & highway fuel mileage

After going on a long trip to SC this weekend I decided to keep track of my highway fuel mileage. It seems to me after the cam my mileage has stayed about the same, around 260 miles to a tank roughly at 80 mph on a automatic stock 3.23 geared 1998 Z-28. I started by topping off the tank when I left and drove the car until the fuel hand reached just above the red line on empty. I thought it would be interesting to see what ya'll are getting on the highway, post what cam your running, what major mods and fuel mileage to a tank.

I'm running a Patriot 226/226 585/585 on a 112 LSA
LT's and all bolt on's with 315 BFG's out back on heavy TT2 17x11's.

What really helps milage is the bolt ons and tune like a LID and catback. I have a bone stock 02 with 31k m6 and it can be high teens or mid 20's depending how easy I am, but Driving the same that would put the car in the mid to high teens could now be high teens to low 20's easy.

I have a friend with a 420rwhp cam on car. I can do 6th on the freeway with out it bucking its a 23X/23X and 55X 55X @ 112 LSA and he does low 20's with a 3.73 rear. m6 car

I lost around 2 mpg (25.2 mpg on a recent trip). Cam is 232/236 574/577 on a 112 LSA.

My cousin's vette gets right at about 35 mpg with his M6 at 70 in 5th(since doing the mods it gets better gas mileage than 6th gear for some reason). We put the following parts in his car:

-MSD coils
-Accel 300+ Race Wires
-Fast 90mm intake
-Ported LS2 TB
-Modified RHS 225cc int runner heads
-SLP mass air
-SVO 30lb injectors
-Jessel SS series shaft mount rockers 1.7 ratio
-Comp Cams Pro Magnum "R" series lifters
- Custom ground Erson camshaft
-Adv duration 302* int & exh
-@ 0.050" 240* int & exh
-0.578" lift int & exh
-112* LSA
-108* Int centerline
-ATI 10% underdrive harmonic balancer
-Ram billet steel flywheel
-Ram Powergrip HD clutch
-SLP long tube headers
-Kook's 3" x-pipe with cats
-TPIS 2 3/4" cat back exhaust
-HP Tuners tuned stock ECM

With this just 80% tuned right now(he needed his car back to use for going to work) he has made 445 rwhp and 406 rwtq SAE corrected (due to weather conditions at the time he actually made 3% more HP & TQ). At wide open throttle his instant mpg still reads 19 mpg.

It is not a joke! I will be getting my camcorder back from my cousin pretty soon. It recodes onto a dvd-rw and I would be more than happy to send you a copy if you would like. We recorded the whole install just to show anybody trying to say BS.

P.S. The goal was to still be able to make 37-38 mpg. I guess we failed.

wow, seems like we do pretty good on fuel mileage. With an older SBC making the kind of power our LSX motors do we'd get about 5 miles to the gallon, technology is amazing.
