Default Questions on cam choices..

I know alot of people are always shooting for the most power they can get, I personally don't want a cam that is going to have be running in the high 6 grand rang to acheive maximum horse power. I want one that has great low end power and stays there all throught the power band. I also want one that sounds agressive and that can put out more then 400+. I allready have ls6 243's heads, and I am going to get them pp'd. So what would be my ideal cam for the hp range that I am looking for???

Dude, don't be lazy, check the dynamometer section. Just about everyone posts cam specs and graphs, showing their setup and cam characteristics/performance.

I have checked, But there lowend is not as high as I want mine to be, Thats why I am asking what would be the best route to go. Trust me I am on here for a few hours everyday reading what people have to say, and everyone it seems is allways shooting for peak horsepower at high rpm's. My car is pretty much a dd at the time, and I am rarely going to get it above 6 grand.

This probably doesn't help you a whole lot, but I am considering a tr224 or a t3.

I know that there is a good bit of difference between the two but its not like I'm choosing between a ls6 and a trex. I'm just trying to decide if I want a proven 224 that is easier to tune and can potentially pass emissions...or if i want the t3 which has good power under the curve, but is more of a mid to high rpm cam.

I was thinking 224 as well. I am in the same situation, I'm not buying a cam yet but I am "window" shopping. I dont want the driveability/enjoyability to go down the pooper. But at the same time I want 380-400 rwhp with a good tune and supporting bolt'ons

When you approach the 23X and higher duration @ 0.050" and 112 LSA and lower, this is where power is made but that driveability takes a hit too. I want to find a good mid point.

I can deal with the bad drivability. I don't care about emisions also. I just want something that has a alot of low end power, and steadily climbs to peak power.

or you could look into a custom grind from a sponsor or somebody that specs out cams,to fit your needs and goals.don't be fooled by the specs at.050.
that being said,i just bought a custom grind that is a 220/224,112lsa .597./.592lift.the 220 int.lobe has more lobe area than a 224 XE grind.power should peak around 6000rpms with a broad power band.it won't make killer peak numbers, but average power across the rpm range will be better than a lot of bigger grinds.....

lol i have looked too and it helped some but it is mostly peak number. I am also looking for a street cam, a lot of low end. More of a stop light to stop light cam.

i won't go back to the dyno until spring.and to be honest,my motor is a little tired.i did a compression test when i put my heads on and was a little disappointed, lol.so the numbers won't look as good as they could with a fresh motor, but i'll definately post some numbers this spring..or maybe i'll go in debt again and just buy a new shortblock...
but there is a guy on LS2GTO.com with a very similar cam,but on a 111lsa.cam only with all the bolt ons he made 379hp373tq.with a good set of heads he would be over 400hp easily,i would think...

TR224 112lsa...........Oooh! even better: Comp XE 224/224 .568/.568 110 lsa...that should pack a whallop in the lower to mid rpms. Im assuming you also plan on headers and a good exhaust?
