Default Anyone hear of "dome brushing"?

I was talking to a guy at Weisco Pistons today and he told me about some CNC process they have called dome brushing. It supposedly optomizes the top surface of the piston. I've never heard of it before. He claims it can be done by hand but it is better by CNC for uniformity. I think a lot of the race teams do it. It costs $4 a piston.

Maybe polishing the dome to keep carbon spots from forming? Not sure why he calls it brushing as opposed to polishing. Brushing sounds like it woul dbe leaving microscopic fissures to hold carbon.
