Default Damaged Cylinder Head! Need Some Advice!

I was just driving down the road at 50 mph or so and all of a sudden I hear a ticking noise coming from under the hood. It sounded like a lifter almost but then some time down the road it went away. When i went in to see if i could see anything wrong this is what i found. There has only been about 500 miles on the heads (Patriot LS6 Stage II's ). So much for selling the car now.

Pic 1, 2, and 3 are the only damaged cylinder. It was all from the one on the drivers side closest to the driver. (Cant remember the cylinder number and Too lazy to look it up.)

Pic 4 is of the one next to it just wondering if this was normal for the head to look this way after only 500 miles.

Can they still be ran or is there a way to fix them?

Thanks!

There was a VERY VERY small piece of metal that i found in my intake and it was all chewed up already so i have no idea how it would have gotten back out if got sucked in. I pulled out a few small pieces of metal that were on the combustion chamber but i think they were just actual pieces of the combustion chamber that were mangled.

Maybe it sucked a piece of metal or something through it?

Its kinda hard to tell, because the valves are still intact. Did you pull both of the heads, pic 4 didnt show up by the way. Do you have pics of the cylinders?

The cylinder walls were fine. You could still see cross hatches on them. The piston had some lighter scratches on the top of it.

I did pull both of the heads and nothing bad on the other side. The only other damage was an extremely small knick on another combustion chamber but its so small its not even worth mentioning. And here is the fourth picture.

Have you drained the oil and see if there is anything stuck to the magnet on the bolt? Sorry for the 20?'s but the more info the better.

Yes that and the oil filter was cut open (both not by me but the shop that did the work) and there was no metal shavings or anything abnormal.

The only thing i can think of is that one of the rockers fell apart. Do you have pics of the metal shavings...

Rocker arms? How would something like that have gotten into the combustion chamber? Wouldn't that have made my oil have metal shavings and needle bearings? Is the head still usable. Is that something that patriot could fix? Thanks For the help! Keep it coming boys!

Just milling the head a little would clean that up enough to be useable again. With Patriots customer service as good as it it, they might even do it for free.

Be aware that if you have someone reweld it, that they'll need to mill it because the heat (from preheating) will almost certainly warp the surface.

Unless I'm missing something...It doesn't look like the heads caused this in any way.

Yea. I dont think anyone was thinking that the head caused this. Just trying to figure out mostly if the head was useable and what could have caused this so it doesnt happen again. Thanks For the Advice Guys!

Do you have a ported TB with the epoxy fill? The epoxy has been known to break loose. I would check out the entire intake tract and look for something missing. Do you have an IAT that came apart?

Maybe I'm missing something but it looks to me that you could just take a cleanup cut on the heads and call it a day. They look to need it anyway by the indentation from the head gasket ring where the cylinder seals

Yes its repairable. Yes you can resuse once you have it fixed by a reputable aluminum cylinder head repair shop. patriot would not be on the top of my list for that.
