Default Who sells thin head gaskets?

besides Cometic?

I could care less if they are graphite.. MLS.. whatever.

Also, the Mr. Gasket are not .042, they are .051 now, so throw those out.

Who else sells thin (.040 or smaller) head gaskets?

Cometic's are some of the better aftermarket head gaskets out there. You just have to have a really stright deck when you running this thin of a head gasket or you run a good chance of them leaking

Not 100% set on avoiding them or anything, but I see a lot of problems on here about them and was wondering what other options were out there. I'm not pulling the block out of the car, it's just a heads/cam swap.

If you've had the heads milled with a fine cut on the last pass, or they are new heads with a nice fine surface, and you do a really good job of cleaning the deck, you will see in your search that most did not have a problem with cometics- whether with copper sealant or without.

I was in the same mode as you, concerned about the cometics leaking, but I figured I was going to try to do the job the best way - and that is keep the quench down. As a fallback I could redo them with the GM MLS gaskets but I wanted to try it this way first. Of course it would be a huge pain to take it apart again if they leaked, but I didn't want to leave the compression, driveability, and power on the table.

So now with 2000 miles on the engine, I'm glad I went this way.

Where did you get the info on Mr. Gasket? Their tech. line told me that the gasket was .042" thick.

Just get the surface as clean/smooth as you can and put on a tad of UltraCopper in the spray form. That will greatly cut down of the chance on a leak.

I agree with LETHL_Z06. I used the .045 Cometics when I did my h/c swap and Jason at TSP told me to spray them with the copper coat and make sure the surfaces are really clean. I went over the deck with a Scotchbrite pad to knock the slick from the stock graphite gaskets off.

I heard the ones they sell now are victor rientz gaskets and are .051 compressed. I haven't measured them myself.
