ported my oil pump today and want to shim the spring. need to know what thickness the shim needs to be.

also wondering whats the diff. between an LS1 and LS6 oil pump? do the 2002's come with the LS6 oil pump standard by any chance? my pump has a white spring in it.

i'm also interested in this as i have a stock pump and intend porting it myself plus shimming the relief.
someone else though advised me to buy an uprated pump instead,(£150!) what are peoples thoughts on uprated vs ported stock?

my pump only has 6K miles on it, if it were say, over 50K, I would replace it anyways. maybe thats why your buddies say replace it?

I shimmed mine approx. .100. It up'd the oil pressure about 9-10 psi at idle..

the guy i spoke to was basically advising an uprated pump regardless, as its going to be track/race use. the ls1 book i have shows the porting required on a stock pump plus shimming the relief, which i had hoped would suffice.
