Question Next Mod ???

I have a 98 Z28 with 140k miles, car has pacesetter longtubes, TSP ORY-pipe, hooker cat back, CATS!, EGR!, thunder racing carbon fiber whisper lid, fast toys ram air, k & n, LS6 intake, descreened MAF, tuned by gomer. my question is with this many miles on the car, is there any sense in future modding, or should the next mod just be rebuild(not sure if that will ever be financial possible though, as i would quoted 5K to 6K to rebuild the 346

I would start putting money aside for a rebuild, OR you can get yourself a nice short block for about 4K. LS2 402 sure would be nice under the hood.

You can rebuild it for way less than 5-6K. Hell, pull it, put new rings and bearings and go with it. That would be less than $500. As long as it specs out, its OK. While your doing that, throw a cam in it.

If you still have good oil pressure and compression and leakdown tests ok, why not? Just do it right and replace the timing set and oil pump. Otherwise, oil pressure is your best indicator of bearing wear.

Now, 98-00 LS1's are known to have weaker rod bolts, so the proper thing is probably to pull it and have the rods reconditioned with new bolts, and you may as well go with forged pistons while you have it apart. Of course, that is where you start adding up $$$.
