Default Has anyone tried the GM manifold and a carb?

I am going to use the new GM 4BBl manifold and a Carb on a 346 with the GM cnc'd LS6 heads. I am also using the new front cover for a distributor and will run an MSD 6 or 7. Does anyone have any experence with these parts? Or any difficulties they may have encountered?

LS1 motor is coil ignition, no distributor. The MSD box controls ignition instead of PCM via pills. (unless there is something new I haven't seen yet)

GMPP is making a front mount distributor drive for LSX engines. It's a little pricey but, coupled with the carb intake, it would completly remove the pcm tuning side of things. http://www.sdpc2000.com/catalog/4461...utor-Drive.htm

Well they did it, I had read something about that but not confirmed it yet. Learn something new every day.

Default More progress

I did a quick mock up of the heads and intake manifold on the block to look at port alignment and fit. Everything looks very good! The ports on GM 4BBL manifold are just about .050" smaller all around than the port on the GM LS6 CNC ported heads. It is necessary to mill a little off of the valley cover to clear the intake manifold but no big deal. Also the instructions require a couple of .025" holes drilled into the steel plate that covers the oil galleries. This is to supply oil to the distributor gear and the excentric for the fuel pump. Yes, the front cover incoporates a boss for a manual fuel pump to be used. It would point straight up and look funky as hell. I think I will stick with an electric fuel pump and regulator system. You will not be able to use the surpentine belt setup with this front cover. The water pump will require about 2" extensions to clear the front cover. There is a company making a special water pump for this application but I am going to use a Meziere electric pump. It will require spacers too so I may have to make them. I am using JE pistons, Scat rods, a stock crank that has been cryo treated and a complete valvetrain from Comp Cams, rockers, lifters, springs, cam, pushrods. The cam is .595 lift and 252-254 @ .050" I also plan to use the GM cam chain tensioner and an LS6 oil pump. I haven't decided on the Carb yet but I am leaning toward a 780 vacuum secondary Holley.

I am putting this engine into a 1972 Vega. The Vega is only about 2500 lbs. This should be a fun little street car!

Because of the front distributor, you could do a fox body swap and play it off as a 302

Just use the MSD 6010 its a hell of alot cheaper and easier. you can program timing off a laptop.

They make a new one for the LS2 for the 58 tooth reluctor wheel. perfect for the GM LS2 440 carb motor
