Default What is the difference in head casting numbers?

Aside from the typical bolt-on's my 2002 Ls1 z28 is internaly stock, i was looking into possibly a blower or a head/cam combo. I like the AFR 205's so far. I do see a lot of stock heads, new and used, bare and assembled on-line for pretty cheep. I have a connection with a machine shop that does head porting, before I contact them to see if porting stock head would be compramal in gains to that of new AFR's i have a few questions.

I would like to compile as much info prior to calling them. I believe that the casting on my heads are to be 806? Does that sound correct for a 2002 Z28?

How many different LS1/LS6 head castings did GM produce? What are the differences in these castings?

Any help or advise would be apreciated. Id love to just order a set of heads from AFR but they aint exactly cheap ya know... Im just trying to do a litte research right now and compile a few options. Any info is welcome to aid my desision.

Thanks all

806 should be from a 1998 motor. They should not be on a 2002 car. Could be aftermarket heads. Or a non-original motor.

1998 = 806
1999 - 2000.5 = 853
2000.5 - 2004 = 241

2001-2004 LS6 = 243

boy was i off, ok i stand corrected I have 241's then i guess... can machining any of these castings produce good results, and i mean good in terms of being compairable to a good set of off the shelf aftermarkets, just curiouls? I know you can probably port the **** out of stock heads to flow as well as say the AFR's but at more of and expence than just sucking it up and buying the AFR's right? Im really a novice at having heads ported, i have never done it with any of my previous cars.

thanks guys

if your just looking for budget ls6 heads, texas speed has ported heads for around $900. (cast 243). just my 2 cents. go with a bigger cam than the ls6 way to mellow / no lope sound.
