Default Am I f'ing my sh_t up?

Ok... so I was just thinking. The springs and retainers that I got that I am putting on my car are Patriot Gold Dual valve springs and the retainers and locks are PRC.

These came straight off of my buddies GTO that I thought was an LS1, but is actually an LS2.

Ive only done 1 cylinder so far and the retainers and springs and locks fit in just fine.

One thing I did notice, was that the hole in the retainers and outer diameter of the locks was bigger than my stock retainers and locks.

The inside diameter however is the exact same as my stock ones, so it all fits the valve perfectly. Is this a PRC thing with having a bigger hole in the retainer? Like I said, the part of the lock that fits around the valve is the correct size for my valves, and it all fits and holds perfectly, so what is up with the retainers and locks just being bigger?

Since I am no longer involved with this stuff as much as i used to be I can not answer you for sure, but it sounds like they just use a heavier duty lock and retainer. In other words, they use a wider stronger lock which requires the hole in the retainer to be larger. With the old school stuff the stock locks were 7 degrees, but you could get after market locks which were supposed to be stronger (though this remains debatable) that were 10 degrees, which means that they are the same thickness at the bottom, but since they have a steeper rake to them they are wider at the top, of course then you had to have a retainer to match. Basically, as long as the locks are designed for your size valve stem and keeper groove, and the retainer is designed to be used with those locks (and they are the right size for the springs) you should be fine. Also, from what i have read, the LS1 and LS2 springs and valvetrain should be the same so that should not be an issue.

Sounds like you have the PP Super 7 locks and retainers if the locks are bigger than stock. PRC spring kits come with retainers that require you use your stock locks, at least the 2 sets I've installed were that way.

Actually, swearing in subject lines make the thread NOT WORK SAFE and are not permitted. It's a matter of respect. Keep it clean and you'll live to post another day.

Did you replace the valve seats for those springs? Just making sure you aren't using duals with stock valve seats. I have seen it done a few times...

Im using TEA gold dual retainers with my second set of patriot gold dual springs coils. The patriot, PRC and TEA gold dual spring coils are all identical. The retainers locks and seats may be slightly different, especially patriot, though theyll all set you up at 1.800 install height.
