Default Understanding lift/duration, and applications of such.

Any good links to help me better understand lift numbers and duration, specifically on LS1's. Also head flow numbers, and how it all comes together?

Specifically knowing what numbers need to be where for what type of gain.

I'm understanding that it's not just the peak hp a cam produces, but for how long also? I just need to find some way to understand the more complex parts of how this **** works. Like why a car with the same weight, but less peak power, might beat a car with a higher peak.. but lower power under the curve? blah im confused.

Hello Daez:

You are asking the the ultimate question that we all have had at one time.

And to some degree the answer is still hotly debated.

It took me over a year of just reading numerous books, researching articles, and subscribing to this message board to get the answer that you have asked.

Its all about Compression, HP/TQ, and proper gearing.

I don't have any easy links to give you.

A lot of times you can learn a lot just by studying various dyno's/track times and looking at everybody's set-ups.

While it sounds like a basic question with an easy answer, for me it took a lot of time and study to narrrow it down to those three concepts.

And, I am still learning.

Hope thats helps. Good luck..

I appreciate the help.. I have to make a big decision soon, and I don't want to make it uninformed.

I doubt I'll be able to afford the heads at the same time as the swap.. but I'm definatly throwing the cam in before the engine goes in. I just need to figure out what kinda heads will go good with the cam.. and hope they aren't some super expensive ones.
