Default 408 and alot of horse..

Hi guys. I been doing some research around here and I have asked a similiar question a few times on other boards.

If you were to build a iron block 408 and wanted 500+ to the rear wheels or horse and similar numbers (lets say 475 rwtq) how would you go about it?

I dont want a CRAZY cam. I had the ms4 and I rather not that radical.

thanks.

Give one of the bigger engine builders a call, and have them spec a cam out for you. Or better yet, just have them build your motor.

Yeah I hear ya. I think today I am gonna have one built for me. I been saying that for awhile but I think today is the day.

I was just curious what people have DONE to see the horsepower increase. I always like having a second, third, and fourth opinion before I pay 10 grand for something.. ya know?

You need a larger cam for more cubes... an MS4 in a 408 will not be as radical as an MS4 in a 346.

See my sig. The cam seems to be what most guys are running. The heads are to small. Need the 225s. Mine did 482hp on a low known dyno with 4.10 gears. Not broke in yet.

If you are looking for big hp #'s then you need to make sure you have heads that will breath good enuff. the motor is only as good as the heads, what good is a big cam if you cant get enuff air into the motor in the first place. I went w/ a 402 w/ a fully ported ls6 head flowing 320 cfm and a custom grind 248/254 112lsa and I am making 560 hp to the wheels, so if you are looking for a lot of hp make sure you get a good set of heads
