Default GC at BMW dealership?

I've heard all the hubub about the GC so I thought I'd try it myself, especially with the piston slap I've been getting lately.
Since I'm a BMW master tech. at a BMW dealership, and I know that the synthetic oil we use in the bimmers is Castrol, I'm curious if this is the same GC everyone is talking about. It's 5W30 that we use, but all of our cars go 15-17K miles on oil changes, so it's gotta be good stuff.

If this is the case, then the ultra hard to find GC is as easy to get as a trip to your local BMW dealership.
I'm changing the oil in the TA today, and I'm going to use the 5W30 that we use in all of our bimmers........I'll get an oil analysis done in 4K miles and let you all know.

No, its not the same oil. I actually change my BMW oil between the services provided by BMW with the GC.

Yeah, well I was just looking closely at the bottles and it does say "made in USA with foreign and domestic products". So I guess your right, not the same stuff.

Well, I guess I'll run this for 4K miles and do an oil analysis. Switch to GC on the next change. BTW, my car sounded like somebody beating the inside of a trashcan with a bat on cold starts with the mobil 1 in it.

I'll repost with the noise on this oil tomorrow morning.

The castrol oil you will find at BMW and mercedes dealerships is a spec bulk oil, still a synthetic, 100x better then what most dealerships use.

Yeah, fired her up cold this morning. Piston slap is worse....I could hear it slapping halfway down the block before it stopped.

I used a Mobil 1 filter......anybody have any input on these?

I hear that the Mobil 1 filters do a great job of filtering the oil, but their CFM flow rate is MUCH lower as a result. I would say stick with the AC Delco filters...
