Default Head Suggestions

Okay, I recently purchased a cam from Thunder Racing 224/224 .563/.563 112 LSA.. with supporting valve train parts (pushrods, retainers, & valve springs).. I would also like to get a nice set of heads to go along with this cam (my goal is to have 400-430whp)... I will have full bolt-ons with H/C.. What do you guys recommend for a good but cheap set of heads..

I put down 382rwhp with that cam through 4.10's, so any heads should put you in the 400's. AFR's if you can afford them if not I would go with the patriot performance LS6 heads.

I vote for the new trickflow heads, or if more budget minded the Dart 205 heads. These have proven to be some 30hp more powerful than a stock LS6 casting and they sell at a friendly price.

Dart 205's or AFR 205's would make a nice combo with the TR224. For this cam you want a small port with high velocity. .600 300cfm lift numbers mean nothing, the valve spends most of it's time in the .200-.400 lift range. A head that flows strong in this area will be bread and butter with your cam.

The 5.3L heads work nicely as they normally retain a small intake runner and flow decent for a ported stock casting. They also give a nice compression increase without milling and losing PTV clearance.

These budget 5.3L heads will provide a nice performance jump for a small chunk of $$. If you want the most out of the combo and a good platform for further power then go for the Dart, AFR, TFS heads. As the old saying that always rings true is " you get what you pay for".

Save your money and pick up AFR's or some Trickflow, not that those heads stated above are not decent heads but you get what you pay for!!!

For the power they seem to produce, they are worth it. But considering you HAVE to use roller rockers it pushes the price to over twice that of the LS6 heads such as TSP/Patriot/etc... Not exactly friendly. (speaking of trickflows)

If your GOAL is 430whp there is no reason to get the trickflows. That power can be had easily with more budget minded heads.

Couldn't have been happier with my Livernois Stage 1 heads!! My cam was had slightly more duration on the exhaust and was on a 114 LSA, but I made 420 RWHP/390 RWTQ with the mods in my sig.

We have Stage 1-3 heads in stock and ready to ship. I have no problem grouping our heads in with any dart or afr head. You certainly do get what you pay for, you get a better head for less
