Default Looking for ideas on a complete engine setup to meet my goals

The goal is an all around track/ racing machine on a budget so I am sure that the car is going to have an ls1/t56 and its going in a completly stripped Rx7. The car is on a serious budget and I dont need to rely on it every day because I have a second car. This car will mainly spend time on the track but it will be driven to all track events and taken out on sunny weekend days.

So here are the stats
the RX7 rear end has 4.10 gears
The car will weigh 2500lbs or less
I know I will be using nitrous (I know I will be spraying a healthy shot but I dont want to have to make several trips a week to the refill station, even with a 15lb bottle.)

What I want it to do.
One weekend I want it to tear up the road course, the next weekend I want to throw different tires on it, adjust the suspension a little but and run mid 10s and trap as high as possible but at least 140mph (The higher the trap the better, I dont want any supras beating me on the highway)

The rear suspension is semi trailing arm IRS so chances are I wont be pulling better than a 1.6 60' and having serious traction problems.. I could switch to the ford 8.8 but I want the car to retain most of its handling nature.

This is the setup I've thought of so far
Trex cam with TSP stage 1 ported ls6 heads
Professional products intake manifold
Modified bbk longtube headers for a 5.0 modified to fit on the ls1 (the rx7 guys use these cause they happen to fit and all you have to do is cut off the 5.0 flange bring the primaries to round and then weld them up to ls1 flanges.)
true dual 2.5 or 3in exhaust with dynomax bullets (just to quiet it down a bit)
150 shot wet kit

I am looking for a big cam that creates a lot of peak power and is good to use with nitrous (i figure I dont need a lot of low end grunt with such a large engine in such a small car especially when it has 4.10s and traction issues)

Let me know if you have any ideas.

You dont need a "big" cam for a car that weighs 2500lbs to run mid 10's.

Stock ls1 block, ported stock heads with cam to match. EX for cam: 224/224 .580/.585 @114 great all around cam for your "all around car"...add all bolt ons with a 6speed and your running high 10's (at least). Now you can drive the car everyday and no need for nitrous.

good luck

I've never seen any of the guys on torquecentral run those sorts of times.. remember I will only be able to pull around 1.6 60's I'm not gonna be able to pull tire lifting 1.3s. I also dont think thats going to net me the 140+ mph trap speeds I'm looking for.

damn, I have a vid in my collection of my cousins buddy. He put a ls1, heads/cam/headers only, into a 1st gen rx7 with a t56. He took the car out to Atco and ran 10.7x @ 13x mph.

Its very feasible. I just dont know what kinda crowd your with thats brain washing you. 2500lbs, 500rwhp = 10's... ****, my mustang had 400rwhp at 3000lbs and ran 10.8x...

With a suspension and tire setup that hooks 500whp deff meens 10s. But the best the t56 FC guys seem to be able to do even with MT Et streets is only around a 1.6 60'. The car in the video is a FD ( a newer version than the one I have) and they hook a little better because they experience less negative camber on launch. I also know that FD had a lot more work done to it than just some ported stock heads.

The FBs (the 1st gen) rx7 you're talking about is very light, several hundred pounds less than my car will weigh even after its completly stripped. And they come stock with a beam rear suspension.

BTW the car will weigh 2500lbs my racing weight will prob be around 2700lbs

Unfortunatly I need a lot more HP to run the same sort of times as you guys..I know with some 1.3 60' times I wouldent need much hp at all to hit 10s but thats not really possible for this car.. so instead of focusing on Ets lets focus on the 140mph trap speed. What would it take to get a manually shifted 2500lb car to trap 140+

You can still get a 2700lbs car with 500rwhp deep into the 10's. your making it seem like you NEED a 1.3 60'ft and 140mph traps.

If *I* had any rx7 and dumped in a ls1, this is what *I* would do.

1st, *I* would make it as quiet as possible. Use stock 241 castings ported/polished(assuming your motor is 01-02) or 853 casting for more compression(but this will make your car stand out alittle more)
2nd, CHEATR cam. Good for higher rpms and good top end
3rd, nice sticky tire with a t56 tranny
4th, *I* would use a hidden direct port, but any hidden kit will do...i guess
5th, suspension, suspension, suspension.

If your looking for something cheaper, try an auto trans with a torque converter and 150 wet kit. Maybe a pulley and exhaust if you can afford it. Get a good tune from someone who knows wtf they are doing, add a sticky tire and have fun.

1 last thing, look up Patrick G. on here. He had an AFR,cheatr cam with a manual trans, running stock exhaust on his Trans Am...11.1 @ xxxmph
He can tell you all about it.
