Default what kind of mantinance needs to be done on a head cam engine?

I have a heads cam car ls1
what kind of things should be checked/changed regularly?
for example should I do anything with the valvetrain every so often?
this is a drag race only car that sees a lot of track time.

The only thing I can think of would be to check the springs every few months. Check oil consumption every time you race and the coolant. Maybe the diff fluid and tranny.

Check the plugs to see how its running.

A good thing to do is make a list of things and go through them every so often.

i think you just need to make sure they are on the seat and they aren't broken.

I pull a few valvesprings and check open and seat pressure every 15K miles. Compare these numbers to the ones when they were new. Replace as needed. It's also a good idea to do a compression check and then a leakdown test of all cylinders. With a leakdown you can pinpoint problems and see how the engine is doing. It's always good to have original numbers to compare to.

I usually do all this in the winter when i'm bored. Winter = no boating and no racing!

valvespring test gauge $69, compress the spring to the installed height on the head and record pressure. A large vice works good.

Yeah, like ryan said. You need to do a pressure test on the valve springs to check the seat pressure.

And a leak down test every now and then would give you an idea of the wear on the rings and I think the valves also.
