Question Synthetic Oil Changes

so today i switched to mobil 1 10w30, my sticker says i need to change it in 3K miles, but isnt synthetic 6-7K miles depending on how its looking? I thought it was but i want to double check. Isn't it the oil filter that needs changed every 3K regardless of what oil is used?

I would say its personal preference. Before i filled mine up with German Castrol i went almost 10,000 miles on mobile one 5w-30 and i was fine. So really its up to you. i normally change mine around 5000 miles.

Even tho your Oil in your Car is able to withstand 6k Miles of Use or More..That dose not mean your Oil Will not Get Dirty Before that.. Which is the main Reason why is should BE changed around 3Miles. Expecially if you Drive up and down Dirty Roads Just a Thought

autozone has a limited supply on hand. I have an "arrangement" with the chick that works at the local one. She makes sure I get a case when it comes in.

Exactly--all depends on how hard, and where you drive. I change mine every 3-4 thou.

well i feel like seals are the big thing. i mean that sounds like an oil change ad but definably change the oil filter every 3k

but I always keep an eye on the oil, checking it every time the hood is open

I use RP and I want to try the XRS RP but haven’t had a chance yet, i feel like a retarded consumer for using regular RP sometimes.

the synthetic oil will last for a long *** time, but the contaminants and abrasives in it will be the reason to change it. which is dependant on environment, i suggest if you run it 8-10k miles, you should change the filter and top it off every 2500-3000 miles just to help it a little. synthetic every 3000 miles is expensive, not that i would cheap out on something like oil, but i run mine atleast 5k. if more the filter was probably changed atleast once already...

Every 3000 miles I change the filter, and top it off (Mobil1). 3rd filter change (9000 miles) I change all the oil, then repeat the process.

The inside of my motor is dayum clean (68000 miles).

It's a true synthetic instead of Faux synthetic like the other Syntec offerings

It runs on the thicker side of the 30 weight range instead of the thin side

It produces some very stellar Used oil analysis results.

They're all synthetics. The thing with German Castrol is that it is one of the few - if not the only - that begins life as a synthetic oil. In reality, even the class III synthetics are great. Just because they start as a dino oil doesn't mean that they still are after molecular changes.

I agree with the guys saying to change the filter every 3k, since filters aren't designed to go as long as the oils. I like the idea of changing my filter every 3k, and oil every 6k.

hey N4cer, i like that idea with the filter and the oil!! i just cant spend almost close to 70 bucks every 3k miles. i never dog my car or beat it at the track.

Yeah I feel ya. I read a lot on BITOG, and honestly I think using the Wal-Mart Super Tech synthetic oil is just fine and dandy. Seems to be way better than any dino oil.

Super Tech = about $15

Wix filter = about $5
