Default 5.3 overbore

Lets say I want to purchase a 5.3.

Lets say I want to bore it .120 and drop stock LS1 pistons in it.

Im told this can be done on a 5.3 iron block, can this be done to the 5.3 aluminum block as well, without installing new sleeves?

Thanks

you wont be able to take the sleeves .120 on an aluminium block.. sorry.. if you need 5.7, get a 5.7 it will be cheaper.

Yes, I believe they are the same block with more bore size on the 5.7. I remember some topics where people started out with a stock 5.3 aluminum block (stock sleeve) so they had room to true it up if needed.

from what i have read.. you can not take aluminum sleeves to that... i have read and heard you can have them honed.. but not bored out like you want to..

Engine Masters had an article within the last 2-3 months were Tony Mamo built a 600+ (crank) hp 383, using a new 5.3L ALUMINUM block bored out to 3.898" with a 4" crank.

So yes, based on that info, I'd say it is very possible.

It was this buildup and Jason(I think) from Thunder Racing's 383 where I noticed something similar. I believe the sleeve has the same outer diameter and is either thicker or bored more for the 5.7L's
