Default Split Duration/lift cams.... Seem to make more power..

Bear w/ me here while I try to explain myself here...

instead of having an exh or int biased duration and lift cam, it seems that the duration/lift split cams make a lot of power...

Take the 228/228 .588 .588 112 vs the MS4 or MS3 cams at, (MS4)239/242 .649 .604 or the MS3 @ 231/234 .643.598. See that? Short intake duration and a lot of lift, on the EXH side is a lot of lift and smaller duration then the intake.

It's prolly the lift and duration increases then..

I am looking for a turbo cam. LS1Speed used to have a nice TU1 cam listed. I think it was 232/234 .581 .588 114 maybe. I think the split cams make better power, but I'll need the EXH biased and the wider LSA for the turbo. I think the above cam would be great for an NA motor.

Am I crazy on this? Or just over researching again??..

I don't know where you got those MS3 specs from, but those aren't the MS3 cam specs. The MS3 is 237/242 .603/.608 113LSA

When you have higher lift, you don't NEED (key word) to hold the valve open as long (duration) to get the same amount of air in/out of the cylinders, and vice versa. With low lift/high duration, you're getting less flow of air over a longer period of time. With high lift/low duration, you're getting a higher flow of air over a shorter period of time. Notice I said NEED, earlier. There are all permutations of these two variables, being high lift/high duration, high lift/low duration, low lift/low duration, low lift/low duration. It will just always boil down to what works best with your combo. The market follows trends (such as the splits you are talking about), but that doesn't mean they are currently the best working cams, they're just currently what more people are looking to buy for whatever reason(s).
