Exclamation oil pan issues

i'm installing my new h/c package and in the process dropped a socket in my oil pan. anyone have a trick on getting that thing out? been working on getting it about for about an hour and i'm pulling out my hair now.

oh boy... i droped a lifter ones, never got it out, tried everything :bang Lucky for me i was dropping a new motor in it

Before you pull the pan, you should try getting it out with a magnet. Wouldn't hurt to jack the rear way up and have gravity help you either. Or if that isn't possible, a strong magnet will draw it to the front through the aluminum pan. Don't ask me how I know, lol. Best of luck to ya!

I've had good luck with the strong extendable mechanics magnets. There are two available from sears, one with a plastic coating to keep it from snagging on the sides and the other bare - got both as they are only about $10. I dropped one of the cam bolts and it went in the pan (of course), fished it out in 2 minutes with the mechanics magnet.
