Default would no tune cause horrible backfiring?

I had a 224 cam tuned with hp tuners, but now i have heads, 230/234 cam, fast ported intake, tb, lt headers and it is backfiring like crazy. could this just be a simple tuning issue? It isn't sounding like it but would love to hear others advice.

go back and check your plug wires and coil connections

Check your spark plugs too. I went through the same thing the other day.....I put the headers on and drove the car on open headers. The next thing I know....bank 2 plugs were fouled out.

Doubt tunning.

Probably cam timing

had the same problem after my C/H/I install... Sorry to go against the grain, but a tune took care of it for me.

It could be tune related, spark related (wires, plugs, etc.), or it could be O2 related. I would check over the mechanical items first (O2 sensors, plugs, wires, MAF) and make sure they're all connected/working properly. If they are, then I'd start looking into the tune

What heads did you switch from and switch to? Sometimes, they take a whole different timing curve.

I just swapped my tr224 for the cam in my sig. Same thing was backfiring really bad. I ended up finding the plug wires were loose on a few cylinders. Check that first. It ran okay untuned

If it's not mechanically related (plugs/wires, O2's, MAF), you may have too much timing for that h/c combo - especially in the 1000-1400rpm range for light to moderate throttle based on the stock 98 spark table. It really depends on what was changed from your previous tune.

Also check to make sure the coils are on right, no wires are switched.

jUST INSTALLED TORQUER 2 AND SAME PROBLEM. ALREADY REPLACED EVERYTHING BUT HAVING TUNE, SO I SUGGEST TUNE! ONE HELPFUL HINT THOUGH, WHEN I PUT PLUGS IN IT RAN DEADLY FOR ABOUT TWENTY MINUTES, JUST LONG ENOUGH FOR THE STOCK TUNE TO FOUL OUT THE PLUGS. REPLACED O2'S, MAF, PLUGS, WIRES, THE WORKS SINCE CAM. GET TUNE, I KNOW I NEED TO
