Default Z06 cam

hey guys I was wanting to put a different cam in my O2 Ws6 But I don't anything crazy. I was wondering if you can put in a Z06 cam in without having to change the springs and lifters. And if I would even get any power gains and if so how much. Thanks everyone

the LS6 cam requires new springs...

lifters should be fine, but i think you need different pushrods due to a change in the basecircle.

you'd probably see about a 20hp gain with that cam...assuming no other mods done along with it.

much better cams out there for the cost...like the 224

You will have to change the springs and PR are always a good Idea because the sock ones suck. But if you are going to change the cam it would be a wast of time to put one that small in. I think you migh see about 10hp depending on your mods. Not worth it to me, I would at least do a 220 114lsa cam or the 224 114lsa.

should make more than that...

seen a number of guys quote dyno numbers of around 360rwhp with just the LS6 cam and the associated bolt ons...

so figure 340 is typical for boltons...the cam is good for about 20hp.

but i agree...for the cost and hassle...step up to a better cam.

besides i've heard that the LS6 cam is pretty peaky with it's power curve, meaning it all seemed to come on real late in the powerband. possibly due to the 117* lobe separation it has

My LS6 cam made 20 rwhp peak over the stock cam, but.. it made 40 rwhp more at 6000 rpm where the stock cam is dead, with a 6 speed and 4.10 gears my car stays in the powerband great and runs very well for the $100 I spent on the cam. And, actually its not quite as peaky as people think. Mine made over 350 rwhp from 5200 to the limiter at 6600 (each shift the rpm only falls to 5100 or so), however the powerband does come in a tad late for stock gearing IMO.

I agree with you if he has bolt ons such as LTs. But LTs always compliment cams so you get more power out of them. However we dont now what mods he has so I was assuming he is still useing stock manifolds. I was under the impression that was the reason people would use a ls6 cam.

I am still running the zo6 cam but, i'm in cali, and also went FI. If I where to run a H/C/I i think at least a 224/224 114. The stock cam is really a de-tuned cam, the camaro can't be that close to the Vette! So what the hell throw a truck cam in to it!!! thanks GM. So IMHO the ZO6 cam should have been in all the LS1's from the factory
