Default Rod Bearing Gone ... way to tell if anything else is messed up?

I was told on the dyno today (like i mentioned in my other posts) that my 98 LS1 spun a rod bearing. Is there a way to tell if the pistons, crank or rods were hurt as well without taking apart the whole engine?

If you spun a rod bearing, the crank WILL be hurt. It might be fixable though. You will just have to tear the engine completly apart to tell. One thing to keep in mind, those tiny pieces of metal that you are going to find in the oil will be in EVERYTHING inside the engine.

yep, like the oil pump ! you could possibly fix it still in the car but i would bite the bullet and go ahead and pull it out.that is probably not what you want to hear but a spun bearing is bad news !

Spun bearing = rebuild. There is no other way around it.

How where you told on the dyno? Was it getting a dyno tune or something and then the bearing spun? If a bearing got spun you would have heard the motor clunking like hell and just heard all kinds of **** going wrong. Are you sure the bearing is spun? I have never heard of bearings spinning without overrevving or lack of oil at high RPM. Make sure it is a rod bearing before you start ripping a motor apart.

You might as well go ahead and call TSP and get you a new shortblock. 98s can be honed only. They don't have enough material to bored out. By the time you get thru rebuilding your block you will have as much or more tied up in it and you can get a new ls6 block with forged internals,ARP rod bolts balanced and blueprinted for the same cash.Thats what I'm doing rite now!

383 and 347 isn't an equal price consideration.

346/7's and 370's are close in price

383's and 408's are close in price

Forged LS2 block (stock crank) should be in the middle of say 346 and 408.

As far as choosing, its your money and you know how much you have. Not us.
