Default Car wouldn't idol well, restart fixed

Any idea what to look out for in the near future?

I went out to the car yesterday and cranked it up as usual, and it was idling really funny. When I put it in Drive (automatic) the car got down to 300-400 Rpms and acted like it would cut off, but kept surging up to around 600 and back down to 300 non stop (best way to describe it is, it was acting the same as when you take the brake booster line off of the intake to run some seafoam through, almost like it has a cam [cam is stock]). When I tried to give it gas, it would be real choppy and I thought I could smell fuel. I turned the car off, let it sit for a moment, then cranked it back up and everything was smooth and normal. Hasn't done it since (of course that has only been a day and only 5 crank ups).

Car has a Mid headers, ORY, Catback, LS6 intake, lid, car has been tuned. Don't think any other mods would be prudent for this question.

Maybe this will be a strange ocurance like when the crank pos. sensor didn't work for about an hour (car wouldn't start, described it here and everyone said crank, so this is a guess) then started working and hasn't given a bit of trouble in 4 1/2 years.

do you have a ported TB? Sometimes a the throttle blade with crud on it will do this. Sometimes your PCM needs to relearn the A/F.

Sounds like it. How old is the battery too? A weak battery will produce all sorts of weird stuff.

Battery is old. It is a yellow top about 8 years old. I do have an issue with the alternator though, but the battery still shows a strong charge on my voltmeter. I thought it was the battery and replaced it with a new yellow top, just to find out that the voltmeter shows the same wide fluctuations even with the new yellow top, so I took it back until the old one dies (this was at Christmas so money couldn't be spent if I didn't have to).
