Default head gasket question

I will be doing a head and cam swap over spring break and i need some advice. I bought a MS4 and LS6 heads. the heads are milled .010 and i have 7.4 pushrods. So to the question, can i use .040 gaskets or should i just buy the stock thickness(.053 is this correct). I will verify the piston to valve clearances but i would like to know, before i buy the wrong gaskets, if one or both will not work. Will i need to buy shorter pushrods, or will i be okay if i set the correct lifter preload?
