Are all cams created equal??? TR vs. MTI I will be buying stage 1 heads from a friend of mine very soon. He has informed me that the heads have been milled down .050 and the compression is now 11:1.
In that case, I have to run shorter push rods: 7.350
As for cams, if you have the same specs but made by different manufacters, are they the same, or more importantly, will they perform the same??? Specs are specs right???
I was going to buy a TR224 114lsa cam and use it with my stock heads. Then my friend said he would give me a good deal on his heads. So that changed everything....
After doing some research and talking to Jason at Thunder Racing, I probably shouldn't use the TR 224 cam due to the longer duration and might have valve to piston contact. I could cut my pistons, but thats not going to happen. Jason suggested that I could do the clay test and then measure the clay to see how much clearance I will have.
I asked if just using a slightly smaller cam will help and he said yep!!!
So the cams I am looking at are:
Thunder Racing TR220 220 .553 114 lsa (Jason said website is wrong, it really is .553 lift)
MTI B1 221 221 .558 lsa 114
My friend is using the MTI T1 cam (112 lsa) with his heads and doesn't have a problem with it working with the milled heads. He offered the cam to me at a great deal, but I want a smoother idle, plus I am going to spray 75-100 shot of Nitrous.
So which one should I get? Are that basiclly the same?

Re: Are all cams created equal??? TR vs. MTI i would even consider the 216/220 comp split duration. ive seen good results from that one with a near stock idle...

DriveATransAm has the comp cams 224 grind which has .002 more lift than the TR and he has milled heads (.050) and is running awesome times

Call em up and ask about it... or look on my web page....there is a LOT of info on the cams your interested in, including the C2 (224/224 .581/.581 )
The +4 would mean there is 4 degrees of advance ground into the cam. (thats a good thing)
