Default Oil pressure with aftermarket gauge??

K, well I did search for this one, but I want to see if my situation is normal. I have the mods in my sig, just not the tune and stall yet. I have a Cobalt electronic oil pressure gauge. It was about 75 out today, cruising with some friends, flooring it a lot obviously. I idle normally at 25psi...but then it got as low as 15psi at one point, idling at a stop light in drive. Then after driving more, it went back up to 25 at idle. I did a search....could this be a bad pump? bad sending unit? Or am I ok? Thanks for any help you give!

What does your stock gauge say?

I dont know....like a little less than the middle of the gauge. I was told not to pay attention to the stock one though cause people say its way off. Like when I am at 25psi on my aftermarket one, my stock one reads like 40psi. When I give it more gas, my oil pressure does increase...so thats a good sign....but yea....I just want to make sure everything is normal. Dont feel like blowing my motor haha

I would say that the aftermarket one should be right on, assuming it was installed right. Mine reads about 25 when the stock one reads just below 40.

kk yea thats right where I'm at. But should I be worried about it dipping down to 15 for a whille? Should it ever get that low?

That's gettin a bit low, so I'd keep an eye on it. Make sure you check out your oil on the next change to see if you can tell anything from that. The basic rule for oil pressure is 10psi for every 1k rpm.

Ok, yea I will keep and eye on it. I am going to be doing an oil change soon. However I am going to synthetic so wont I see a pressure drop from that?

The only pressure change you might witness would depend on the viscosity of the oil you are changing to.
