i know lots of people still run mobile 1 just because thats what GM recommends. but lots of people say that oil is too thin. im using castrol syntec 5w-40. had no issues so far. no pinging, or oil consumption.

Amsoil has been the best I've tried or seen.

Mobil 1 is not too thin, Mobil 1 "5w30" is too thin If you want to stick with or start using Mobil 1, then use 0w40. 5w40 used to be a very good choice, but they switched it over to the turbo diesel truck, and I am not positive if the formula stayed the same, so to be safe til I find that out, 0w40 is what I use in my WS6 and 5.3 ECSB Z-71.

Other oils that are very good to use are 0w30 German Castrol, which is touted about the best. Also Amsoil 5w40 is a great choice as well.

Just to finish it off, a K&N filter PN HP2006 will allow you to use 6 full quarts, and its a favorite among LS1 owners as well.
