If it's an A4, he'll need a tune. If it's an M6, he won't need a tune. But, he will risk damaging his motor without one. Same with the headers and intake. He won't need them. But, the car will perform a lot better with them.

Well, like I said he'll need a tune in order for it to stay running, not surge and die on him every time it tries to idle in gear. Not to mention, he'll get a nice slam through the drivetrain when he puts it in gear once he finally does get it tuned assuming he's still running the stock torque converter. As for the intake/headers making it run crapy....not so much. It will limit the kind of power he can make though. And then, he'll need to get it retuned once he does get those bolt-ons.

There's a reason people do these things in order when working on a budget.

The 224 cam needs a tune whether it is A4 or M6. I am running the TR224 and have been for 2 years. On the first start up the car would not hold an idle, and ran like crap. I put just a little tune on it to get it to idle and run OK but the dyno tune gave me 30 more RWHP. I assume he knows that he has to change valve springs?

The stock converter is fine...I ran mine with the stock converter for 8 months and only changed then when I got a Yank 3200 for half price.

The LS1 intake will not optimize his mods but probably will not hurt him but 10 or so RWHP.

I would buy some used set of headers, either it be macs mid-lenghts or longtubes and he would definately need a tune.
