Bad rings? Will a compression test help tell?
It seems like i'm going through an excessive amount of oil, and i'm wondering if the rings are the problem. Runnin' regular valvoline 10W40 now. I previosly ran a synthetic and it had terrible consumption. The rings are aftermarket(Don't know the brand), motor has about 5K on it. Smokes at idle on cold start and smells horrible, (could be fuel though). Do you guys think a compression test will tell me whats up? Also, I wonder if my PCV system is to blame... One valve cover goes to TB,(passenger side) and driver side just has a type of breather. Ls6 intake blocked off port. My nitrous probably isnt helping the situation either...

Well, It just came to me that before I had my heads done, (241 casting stg 3 port with stainless steal valves) I don't remember the oil comsumption being so bad... Maybe it is the valve seats? But also, when I had the heads done... I added nitrous as well... Could be any anything!
