I normally use Castrol Syntec 10W30 because it seems thicker.

Mobil-1 is about 10 Cst, German Castrol was 11.7 Cst last time I looked. Amsoil used to be in the upper 11's as well, but they reformulated a year or so ago and dropped it down near Mobil-1.

GC 0w30 is thicker. Amsoil 5w40 euro. Mobil1 Turbo Diesel 5w40. All are good choices in teh LS1. Could also add one quart of 10w40 or 15w50 to thicken the M1 youre using now.

German Castrol is thicker than Mobil 1 5w30..But, for some reason it made my motor noiser too. I dont really know why, but either way thats one of the reasons i stopped using it. Although one oil may be "noisier" than another, it doesent mean that it is not performing well, or protecting your motor. But i agree, i'd rather have a quiet motor than one thats a little noisey.

It made my engine noise louder also. I am going to get a test ran on it when I change my oil and see if it stands up to the hype, if it does, I will live with the noise

My start up noise was a little louder with GC as well, but it went away after a couple minutes just like it always does. I figured it was worth the little added noise for the excellent results everyone has on the stuff.
