Default NEED HELP BEFORE I PURCHASE ITEMS!!!heads gasket/head install questions

What head gasket should i run?

I have patriot stg II heads shaved .010
and my cam is 224/230 w/ 578/583 on a 112lsa

Also, can i still use the stock length pushrods?

I already have the cam installed with hardened pushrods.

Next question, what all will i need to replace when i put these heads in.
I'm also putting in an lsx 78/78 setup.
I want to make sure i have all the necessary parts before the install is done.
Any info is appreciated.
Thanks

Go to the DCR calculator and determine where you want the compression to be. GM MLS gasket is the best if you want a safe bet and you're not too concerned with quench. Cometic 040 will give you more compression and tighter quench but you need to be very thorough on the prep.

Get a pushrod checker to be sure of the pushrod length required, otherwise the 7.4 pushrods are probably OK.

If you have a lot of miles, you may as well put lifters in, oem from comp or ls7 lifters are fine, melling are said to be better but I don't have info on those. Don't use CompRs - they're not worth the setup hassle and if done wrong tend to come apart.

Get a gasket set, coolant, oil, a puller for the pulley and a threaded rod for the pulley install and get a couple of bags of the ling q-tips to clean out the threads.

If you have a wet/dry vac draw out the coolant after you get the water pump off - saves a lot of time and mess later.

Default MLS Gaskets

I like MLS Gaskets. Some people don't.

This should help
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...ht=head+gasket

Stock head gaskets should be .053 thick, but you could get Cometics that are any thickness you want.

The stock gaskets are inexpensive, while the Felpros are $70-80 each.

Not really related to what you were asking at first, although...I got the MLS gaskets from TR for my install and had no problems with them. Anyways, buy yourself some of those super long Q-tips - cleaning the head bolt holes is a PITA, you can used the rolled up paper towels to get most of the coolant out, and then use the Q-tips to clean out the dirt and grime.
