Default Spun Bearing?

OK,

I found a decent deal on a 01 Z28...says it has a spun bearing..

now..w/ that issue...what would need to be done to have it running good again?

just change the main bearing?or what..

Sorry for the dumb question...i'm usually pretty smart at most of the stuff

At worst new short block, You will not know what is going on until you pull
it.

Does he say it still runs??

If just bearing, at least crank will need to be resurfaced or need new crank, possibly rod/rods??

Are you able to do labor?? If not could kill you in labor cost. Just to find out.

Alot of possibilites and choice will need to be made once you KNOW what has to be done.

Ask yourself, If seller says easy fix why wouldn't he do it.

If deal is good and you want stronger motor, go with bottom forged short block and then add what ever you want later.

Good Luck.

try to get soundclip og hear the car running, to se how bad the bearing is, it can damage the rod, and the crank,

here is a video of mine running with a spun bearing,

you cant hear much.. but it was enough to damage both the crank and one rod,

at worst you can buy a shortblock, gasket kit, that shouldn't have to go over 2k's. but in my opinion, save longer buy the stuff you want, i got to rebuild the engine anyhow 8)

I didnt even hear a knock in that video but maby its just my crappy laptop speakers, chances are the engine is cold and a knock usually wont show up until the motor gets a little bit of heat in it

Personally I wouldn't mess with it unless it was a really good deal.

well when my engine had a spun rod bearing (pontiac-455) I could hear it even with open manifolds it sounded like someone was hitting the block with a hammer from the inside, it may be a problem with a lifter or something valvetrain related and if it is you could get the car for cheap and only have to put little money into it to get it running correctly.
