Default Lobe help pleeeease!

OK So I am in cali and I want to keep it smog legal.

Heads will be some version of a 243.

So the cam/lobe options are:

TR224 on a 114
TR227 on a 114
TSP 224/228 581/588 on a 114
TSP 224/224 581/581 on a 114

My question is which lobes are most agressive? I think that from what I have read the TSP will use the XER lobes and that will be the most aggresive? Or would the TR lobes be better?

I plan on using double springs so valvetrain wear/ breakage will be limited.

I just want to maximize what I can do in cali, what does the split do for me?

How much HP gain might I expect from the additional lift on the TSP?

I suspect I am just splitting hairs here so tell me if this is the case?

Yes on splitting hairs
TR224 and TSP 224 (both 114) will pass but only with fresh cats (need check) and good tune.
Ideally to be on safe side a cam with -6* overlap is a sure bet if properly tuned with health motor.

So the TQ/HP #'s on all these cams will be very close then? I have read the split in duration and lift is good for a few ponies, any truth to that?

Don't you need more exhaust duration and or lift to get through the stock exhaust manifold and cats (smog legal).

Did you look into the TR Cheater Cam?

Or Cam and Head package:

Well I have kooks long tubes and mid pipes so it isn't stock there.

Anyone else on the power potential of each cam listed?

I have read so much already, I just hadn't reallyfound any thingcomparing the 224 options, only the 224's in general I was hoping to decide if the 224/228 would be worth going for, and if the TR lobes made anymore power than the TSP ones.

If your trying to pass smog the 224/224 has less overlap and will be the better choice. You wouldn't see a big difference in power w/ a 224 or 228 on the exhaust lobe anyway, nor between the different cam grinds. You're tossing around about a 5 horsepower difference with the options listed. I also found this poll discussing the 224 cams: https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...t=tsp+224+dyno

Thank you, that is what I was looking for just to know what kind of difference I am looking at, if I am running nitrous does the 224/228 advantage become greater?
